Michael Savage Lies to Make Himself Look Better
06 Aug 2009This time, it’s on his Web site.
Savage has a link on his site to a “letter,” author unknown, which is basically a plea for money. It talks about how mean ol’ England has banned Savage from crossing its borders, and is trampling all over his freedom of speech.
Let’s forget the fact for now that Savage, as an American citizen, has no free speech guarantee in England.
And then comes the zinger:
Remember, Michael Savage was awarded the Freedom of Speech award by the radio industry in 2007.
Not quite.
Savage was given the Talkers Magazine Freedom of Speech award in 2007. He felt it was such an honor that Savage blew off the award ceremony, opting instead (as I recall) to go to a wedding. But he was kind enough to record himself babbling on a DVD, which he sent to the magazine for airing at the award ceremony.
He also ended up selling it, but what else is new?
Anyway, Talkers Magazine is an industry publication for news and talk radio. The award was decided upon by the magazine’s editorial board.
It’s important to note that Talkers simply covers the industry, it is not a publication of any association of talk radio stations. So its editorial policy does not represent the radio industry.
So when Savage asserts that he was given the award by the radio industry, what is he doing? That’s right, he’s lying.
Keep the faith.
